Tree Care:
Planting:
Location: Needs a full sun location (at least 8 hours) to develop that signature red color. Ensure the soil is well-draining; peaches don't like "wet feet."
Process: Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. If your soil is poor, mix in some aged compost, but ensure the graft union stays 2 inches above the soil line.
Watering:
Initial Care: Water deeply twice a week for the first year to help the roots establish.
Fruit Swell: Increase watering in the 3 weeks leading up to harvest. This is the "final swell" period where the fruit gains most of its juice and size.
Fertilizing:
Schedule: Use a balanced 10-10-10 fertilizer in early spring before the blossoms open.
Dosage: A second, lighter application can be done in May if the tree is carrying a heavy fruit load. Avoid fertilizing after July.
Pruning:
Method: Maintain an "Open Center" (Vase) shape. This is critical for 'Blazeprince' to ensure sunlight reaches the interior fruit, which is necessary for the deep red skin to develop.
Timing: Prune in late winter or very early spring while the tree is still dormant.
Pest and Disease Control:
Disease Resistance: Bred for high resistance to Bacterial Spot, making it much easier to manage than older varieties.
Monitoring: Watch for Brown Rot on ripening fruit and Peach Tree Borers at the base of the trunk. A preventative copper spray in late winter is always a good idea.
Winter Care:
Insulation: Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base (keeping it 3 inches away from the trunk) to protect the roots from deep freezes.
Dormancy: Because it is a high-chill variety, it generally stays dormant long enough to avoid damage from early spring "false starts."
Tree Description:
Appearance:
Flowers: Beautiful, showy clusters of pink blossoms in mid-spring.
Fruit: Stunning, large fruit with a 90% to 100% bright red blush over a yellow background. It is virtually fuzzless, giving it a very smooth, polished look.
Foliage:
Leaves: Long, lance-shaped, vibrant green leaves that provide a lush, tropical feel to the garden during the summer.
Shape and Growth:
Habit: A vigorous, upright-to-spreading tree. It typically reaches 12–15 feet at maturity but is easily kept to 10 feet with annual pruning.
Chill Hours: Requires approximately 800–850 chill hours, making it best suited for regions with definitive winters.
Fruit Characteristics:
Flesh: Firm, yellow, and melting. It stays firm on the tree longer than most peaches, allowing for a wider harvest window.
Type: A true freestone peach; the pit pulls away cleanly, making it perfect for slicing.
Flavor: A classic, rich peach flavor—sweet with a balanced tang.
Adaptability:
Climate: Specifically developed for the Southeast, it handles heat and humidity exceptionally well while remaining hardy enough for more northern regions.
Landscape Use:
Visuals: Because the fruit is so incredibly red, the tree looks like it’s decorated with ornaments in mid-summer. It’s a fantastic choice for edible landscaping where you want both beauty and a high-yield harvest.
